Cath Orain is a French embroiderer based in Paris.

She discovered needlepoint embroidery during a trip to Senegal in 2008.

Back in Paris, she joined a group of embroiderers in the 104 workshops and undertook textile research on eroticism and the female condition, sensitive subjects, and antagonists to needlework.

She joined the French collective “Fiber Art Fever” in 2012 and started to exhibit her pieces as part of the Festival “Les un chez les autres” organized by the City of Paris or the Manufacture de Roubaix (Museum of memory and textile creation).

That same year, she began training at the Lesage school. The techniques used in haute couture embroidery and the learning of Lunéville hook (tambour embroidery) allowed her to develop her projects towards more graphic realism.

In 2019, she joined the “Society for Embroidery Work” based in the United Kingdom which supports and promotes textile artists, and decided to broaden her field of research, it is at this time that she started to produce her first work on climatic disasters due to human activity.

Its embroidery is mainly carried out on silk organza, cotton or linen and a large part of the materials used are second hand or salvaged materials.

Her main inspirations are multiple, from classical European paintings to comics, including pop art, street art and photography.

She usually crafts her embroideries based on her own photographic work but also collaborates with contemporary photographers.

Her creations are regularly exhibited in Europe (France, United Kingdom, Sweden) and in the United States or published in the press (Connaissance des Arts, Mr X stitch “The cutting (& stitching) Edge, Féros, The Untitled Magazine…)
